Thousands of anti-government protesters flooded Baghdad’s Tahrir square on Thursday with demonstrators dancing to music, having free haircuts and food.

Volunteers also handed blankets to demonstrators with ‘Tuk-Tuk’ vehicles seen serving as ambulances and people offering free gasoline to drivers.

“I came to prepare the ‘Alsoiah’ for the demonstrators, to help them because they are demanding the rights for Iraqi youth and women”, said a woman offering the handmade bread.

No clashes were reported between the protesters and security forces. Protests began in early October over corruption, unemployment and lack of basic services.

However, demonstrations were suspended after the security forces started using live ammunition reportedly killing nearly 150 people.
